Stop 5: God’s Roadmap Through Time
In our journey so far, we have established that the Bible can be trusted (Stop 1). We’ve explored the heartbreaking origin of sin (Stop 2). We’ve discovered God’s incredible plan of salvation (Stop 3) through Jesus, our one true Savior (Stop 4).
Now, a powerful question arises: If God has a plan, has He shown us where we are in the grand timeline of history?
The answer is a resounding YES. Hundreds of years before Jesus was born, God gave glimpses of history—prophecies that have unfolded with perfect accuracy. These prophecies prove that He is in control and give us unshakable hope for the future.
A King’s Dream: The Blueprint of History
God gave a dream to Nebuchadnezzar, the mighty king of Babylon, to reveal “what shall be in the latter days.” The king could not recall the dream, but God revealed it to His prophet, Daniel.
The dream was of a giant statue made of different metals, each representing a world-ruling empire:
- Head of Gold: Babylon, Nebuchadnezzar’s empire. (Daniel 2:38)
- Chest and Arms of Silver: Medo-Persia, the kingdom that followed. (Daniel 2:39a)
- Belly and Thighs of Bronze: Greece, led by Alexander the Great. (Daniel 2:39b)
- Legs of Iron: Rome, the crushing empire that came next. (Daniel 2:40)
- Feet of Iron and Clay: The divided nations that rose after Rome’s fall—nations that would attempt unity but never fully succeed, “even as iron is not mixed with clay” (Daniel 2:41-43).
History has followed this divine roadmap flawlessly, confirming the Bible’s reliability. But the climax of the dream gives us the greatest hope:
A stone, “cut out without hands,” strikes the statue, shattering it. That stone grows into a mountain filling the whole earth. It represents God’s eternal kingdom. Scripture declares:
“In the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed… and it shall stand for ever.” (Daniel 2:44)
A Counterfeit Kingdom Arises
Daniel and Revelation reveal even more details. The same empires appear with different symbols: a lion (Babylon), a bear (Medo-Persia), a leopard (Greece), and a terrifying beast (Rome). Daniel 7:4-7, Revelation 13: 1-2
But after Rome’s fall, another power would arise, symbolized as a “little horn” (Daniel 7:8, 19–25; Daniel 8:9–12) Unlike the others, this was not just political but religious (Revelation 13:3–8). The Bible foretold that it would:
- Speak great words against the Most High—claiming titles that belong only to God. (Daniel 7:25, Revelation 13:5–6)
- Wear out the saints of the Most High—bringing great suffering to faithful believers. (Daniel 7:25, Revelation 13:7;17:6)
- Think to change times and laws—attempting to alter God’s sacred commandments. (Daniel 7:25)
This system would establish a counterfeit plan of salvation by setting up a human priesthood, seeking to replace Christ’s ongoing ministry in heaven. Yet Scripture makes it clear:
“There is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.” (1 Timothy 2:5)
God’s Undeniable Proof: The Messiah’s Timetable
To leave no doubt about His true plan, God gave the most precise time prophecy in the Bible. Daniel foretold:
“From the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks.” (Daniel 9:25)
This adds up to 483 prophetic years, beginning with the decree to rebuild Jerusalem in 457 B.C. The prophecy points directly to A.D. 27—the very year Jesus was baptized, anointed by the Spirit, and began His ministry, declaring, “The time is fulfilled” (Mark 1:15).
It also foretold His death: “After threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself” (Daniel 9:26). This stunning prophecy pinpointed the cross, proving Jesus is the true Messiah and confirming the Bible as God’s inspired Word.
Our Time: The Final Judgment and Our Great Hope
The Bible’s prophecies do not leave us in doubt. They lead us to a glorious climax: God’s final act of justice and deliverance. Scripture is clear that a judgment is coming for every person who has ever lived.
The Heavenly Courtroom
The prophet Daniel was given a vision of the judgment. He saw God, the “Ancient of Days,” seated on a fiery throne with thousands of angels in attendance, and “the judgment was set, and the books were opened.” (Daniel 7:9–10)
Good News for Believers
Judgment may sound fearful, but the Bible assures us that those who trust in Jesus have nothing to fear. (Romans 8:1; John 5:24)
Jesus Is Our Advocate
The most wonderful truth is that we do not face judgment alone. The Bible promises: “If any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.”
(1 John 2:1)
Jesus is:
– The Messiah cut off, but not for Himself — who died for us. (Daniel 9:26)
– Our High Priest in heaven. (Hebrews 8:1–2; Hebrews 9:24)
– The one mediator between God and men. (1 Timothy 2:5)
He represents us before the Father, presenting His perfect life and sacrifice in our place.
Christ’s Final Victory
Satan has long opposed God and His law, but judgment confirms Christ’s victory at the cross and secures His eternal kingdom for His people.
(Colossians 2:15; Revelation 20:10; Daniel 7:26–27)
Your Invitation
Jesus said, “Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
(John 3:3)
By confessing your sins and accepting Him as Savior and Advocate, you can face the future with confidence, knowing your place in His everlasting kingdom is secure.
(1 John 1:9; Romans 10:9–10)
We are living in earth’s final moments—the time of judgment, just before God’s kingdom breaks into history. The stone from Nebuchadnezzar’s dream is about to fall, and God’s eternal kingdom will soon stand forever.
The question is: Will you be part of it?
Jesus said, “Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God” (John 3:3). By confessing your sins and accepting Him as Savior and Advocate, you can be assured of your place in His everlasting home.
The Journey Home is not just about history—it’s about your future! God’s roadmap through time shows that He has a plan, and He is inviting you to take your next step with Him today.
